These pages are published for readers who want to understand an open protocol. Read them, quote them, link to them.

Quoting

Short quotations with a link back are welcome and need no permission. Wholesale republication of a page is not: it splits corrections across two copies, and the older one is the one that stays wrong. The specifications and archived documents referred to here belong to their own publishers, under their own terms.

Names that belong to other people

Jabber is a trademark. The archived pages of the former logo programme at this address state that the mark belonged to Jabber, Inc. and that its use was licensed through the Jabber Software Foundation; the foundation renamed itself the XMPP Standards Foundation in January 2007. This site is not affiliated with any of them, does not speak for them and cannot grant any right over the name or the artwork. Software names such as ejabberd, Prosody and Openfire belong to their own projects.

Limits

Nothing here is a security audit, an operations contract or legal advice. Protocols change, extensions move between statuses, and a configuration that was right last year can be wrong today. Before you rely on a detail, check it against the current specification; where we can, we say which document and which section to open.
